It’s been about a month since I had my elbow hyper extended. I can straighten it with some pain and stiffness but I can't bend the arm towards my shoulder very far yet. My wrist also seems to have been damaged as it's quite tender and can't take much pressure. It’s healed enough for me to be able to return to the gym, but unfortunately they're closed for a few weeks for Christmas!
Due to my new job, for the first time ever since starting work I get more than the public holidays off. After this Wednesday I have just over two weeks off, so I hope to spend some of this time training. A few members of the gym have we expressed interest in training at my place and/or doing some Boxing or Muay Thai at the beach, which sounds like heaps of fun!
Over the last month I've had some conflicting thoughts about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA. Some days were hard for me to care about BJJ while sitting around with a useless arm, and others had me super pumped for my return. Some days I was wondering whether it was worth competing and if I'd ever give it another go. Other days I was thinking of areas I needed to work on and imagining myself placing in the next tournament I enter. After a few weeks on this I settled on trying again. One of the main reasons I started BJJ in the first place was because it was the hardest (scariest) thing I could think of doing. I think if I didn't give it another shot I'd be going against that. I want to experience as much as I can and prove to myself that having a fused spine shouldn't hold me back. So I'm going to continue to heal up, and hit the mats with a vengeance come January!
For now however I’m going to try to get some training in and enjoy my time off work! With the gym being closed I'm not sure when I'll post again so, until next time, stay safe!
