First off, I hope you all had a great Christmas and an awesome new year. I spent the last few weeks off work for the first time ever and I did very little, which is a nice change for me.
Since injuring my arm mid-november I've only had two attempts at training. This was partly due to fear of further injuring my arm and mostly due to being slack. The first session was with an old friend who trained with me years back (the shed days) and we did some warmups, submissions and takedowns. The day after I had some general soreness around my elbow and wrist but nothing major. The second workout was with my gym buddy Josh and we ran through some mitt-work (boxing) and some BJJ towards the end. I realised then that fully extending my arm with force hurts quite a lot, so I'll have to be careful with that when training starts again tonight. The wrist on that arm also hurts quite a bit, making me think it was damaged rather than sprained along with my elbow. I'll have to keep these in mind for when I train. Hopefully I come out of it OK!
Its a new year, and the stupid excuse of 'New Year, New Me' coincides with the gym re-opening from Christmas break. I'm going to try and take my training to a new level this year. For me, this means more advanced classes and more rolling. I might also enter another competition in the first half of this year, depending on my confidence level and the state of my arm. There's a seminar this weekend with retired Mixed Martial Artist Brian Ebersole which I'm hoping to attend. Brian was a long time UFC fighter and has had over 70 fights in his long career, so I'm sure his seminar will be a wealth of information. Hopefully I'll be able to make it, and if so I'll report back here on my experience. Until then, stay safe and Happy New Year!
