Hello everyone! It has been many months since I have last posted and unfortunately, I’ve only trained a few times since then.
The last time I checked in, I was coming out the other side of multiple health issues. While the headaches have ceased unfortunately I’m still having issues with my stomach. I’m currently going through different foods and adding and cutting foods to see if I can have any effect on how I’m feeling. I’ve considered going the full hog and trying something like a Ketogenic diet but I’m not all the way there yet.
Outside of my health, I’ve had a lot going on since October. After planning and courting finances to a trip to the Gold Coast (Queensland) for my fifth anniversary my partner found herself without work. This meant that everything I payed for increased by quite a margin. To make sure I didn’t spend literally all of my money I paused my payments at Gemina MMA. The week before our Holliday our 5-year-old Siberian Husky died. Paying for medicine and cremation set me back even further as it’s very expensive. Since October, I’ve been trying to pay off the debt we’d managed to accrue with the Holliday and the expenses of the dog’s death. It’s been an extremely trying time and while I’m not in the clear, yet I’m hoping I can get there in the next few weeks and hopefully get back to training.
Although I already knew it, these last few months have been a good reminder that BJJ, or any sport, isn’t the be all and end all. It will be there when I get back and long after I die so there’s no sense worrying about it when I’ve got other things to be concerned with.
I have been training occasionally with friends in the garage, which has been awesome however, and I’m hoping to do more of this until I can get back into the gym. I was able to drop in to another Open Mat on the beach here in Rockingham, hosted by Luke from Free Rollers and Open Guard, which was heaps of fun. Luke will organise these free events occasionally and invite anyone who is interested so it’s always great to be able to roll with new people and do so outside! I took some photos of the event, which I’ll put up in its own gallery when I am able to.
I received a message from a reader today saying that I’ve been an inspiration for them after they injured their back training. They were told that they probably won’t be able to train again and were feeling upset until they came across my blog. They’re hoping that with adjusting the way they train and picking training partners carefully they can get back to training. For anyone in this situation, I recommend giving it a go to see if you are still able to train. That being said, please be sure to first talk to your coaches and training partners to see what they suggest and to ensure they’re properly aware of your injury. I wouldn’t be able to train successfully if not for my awesome team and coaching staff, so make sure you utilise them! I’m truly honoured to have been an inspiration to anyone, in any way and I truly hope that this person is able to get back to training in some way!
At this stage I won’t make any promises about when I’ll post next as I have no idea when I’ll get back to training. What I will say, is that I will add new posts when I have something to talk about, whether it’s relating to training I did, interactions I’ve had or just how I’m feeling. Once again, I truly appreciate all of you who read my blog! Lastly, Luke from Free Rollers has thrown up an Interview on Jiujitsutimes.com which I recommend checking out.
